Fostering saves lives!

Why do we foster?

Because it saves lives!

So many times, I hear some version of "Oh, I could never be a foster, I wouldn't be able to give them up!"

And yes, that is the hardest part of the job. With every foster who gets adopted, there are inevitably tears of sadness - but also joy.

The time, energy, resources, and love that we pour into each of our foster kitties can be overwhelming. But is it worth it?

Absolutely, yes!

Rainbow Dash and Chock are my favorite foster story, because they never would have survived their shared disease (FIP) without dedicated fosters.

Rainbow Dash was in foster with Felines & Friends for nearly two years before moving to the Cat Cafe. In that time, he was cared for in two foster homes, who administered medications for him daily for six months. Chock underwent the same treatment, for three months.

At the Cat Cafe, they quickly became visitor favorites. Despite their long, hard treatment -due to their time in a home, they were social, friendly kitties who wanted nothing more than love (and treats). It's no surprise they found their furever home - together!

For their fosters, it was incredibly hard to say goodbye. But they knew that they were going to the best home. And letting them find their forever home would mean more room for the next cats that needed a safe place to live.

And then there are the easy fosters! The ones that settle right in and go home at their first adoption event.

These "easy" fosters are no less difficult to say goodbye to than the hard ones that require more energy. But it's all to say that there is a cat or kitten for every type of foster home - including those that need an easy win!

What is needed to become a foster to a cat or kitten(s) in need?

At minimum, you will need:

  • a spare bathroom, room or space to put a playpen; and

  • love to spare.

Our rescue partner provides supplies, medical care and plenty of guidance. Duration can be as little as a few days to as long as a few years.
